Nutrition Surveillance Program Manager
Attendance has declined to two or three people a day, Department on Aging Director Marce Wandell said. The DOA runs eight senior nutrition center sites throughout the county. When Department on Aging officials learned attendance was low at the Henrietta senior nutrition site in July, the hours of operation were reduced to one day a week. Seniors using the site have been notified of the closing and will be offered frozen meals to take home instead of a hot meal. Seniors could also visit one of the other seven nutrition center sites in the county. With so few taking advantage of the hot meal, the department had to find ways to reduce costs.

Objective 3 : Provide technical support to the departments in order to perform assessments and surveys when needed/asked by the technical departments: The Surveillance Manager is responsible for conducting surveys/assessment and ensuring their methodological and scientific soundness data analysis and reporting. Design the survey (Terms of Reference). Based on request of the technical coordinators (Nutrition, Food Security and WASH), the Surveillance Manager is in charge of the designing of assessments and surveys: to write the terms of reference, to select the tools and methods, the type of informants and/or sampling, selection of villages for field work, writing guidelines and set up time frame, working days needed, logistics planning and any special tools needed (GPS, map, camera). Field work data collection: Collection of information at field level. Different tools and methodologies can be used, depending on the needs and type of the survey e.g. focuses group discussion, PRA, face-to-face meetings, questionnaires etc. The surveillance team will systematically provide the team training before the field work to test the questionnaire and methodology and to ensure that the team adheres to guidelines, protocols and methodologies in place Collection of background and general information: The manager is in charge of the scientific quality of the research.

‘Grandfather‘of nutrition goes into retirement
He was the first person that taught me nutrition then and he made so much impression on me and one couldnt but fell in love with the subject. He emphasised so much on the importance of nutrition, pointing out that no matter what we were doing whether in medicine or agriculture, the end point was really the nutrition of the people. After graduating with a B.Sc. in Agriculture, the windows of opportunity to pursue the reverie of becoming a food nutritionist were somewhat narrow for Oguntona, but he found his feet at the University of London, where he was offered admission for his Masters degree in animal nutrition and so began his sojourn into the world of nutrition. I didnt come back to Nigeria immediately because there was nowhere to practise my programme. Ibadan was not doing a degree programme in nutrition.
